If you can't afford a complete bathroom renovation or are interested a simple change, there are many easy and inexpensive options, such as updating with acesssories or paint.
Update with New Accessories
The simplest and most inexpensive way to update a bathroom is with a new rug, shower curtain or new towels. Even if you don't want to change the entier color scheme of the bathroom, you can still create a new look just by changing or adding accessory colors.
You can change other small things to create a new look - such as the color and/or style of your wastebasket, soap dispenser and tissue holder. Fill a vase, bowl or basket with fresh flowers or small toiletries. Pretty colored soaps and candles can also give an old bathroom a whole new look and feel.
Large frameless mirrors were once very popular in bathrooms. If you have such a mirror, you can create a new look by framing it. Find a molding you like at a home improvement store, then cut it to fit around your mirror and put it all together. Paint it to complement your bathroom decor. You can even experiment with brushing silver or gold highlights on the molding or antiquing it. When you've finished the frame, attach it to the mirror with liquid glue.
Update with Fresh Paint
Painting a room is a great way to give it a fresh new look. Paint doesn't have to match the existing tiles or flooring - complimentary colors work well too, such as using yellow paint with blue tiles. Bright colors work well in bathrooms because they can make a small space look larger. Be careful when using a very dark paint, like a hunter green, as it can make some bathrooms seem very small and cavelike. |
